QUAERO @ FUTUR EN SEINE 2013!

Futur en Seine is a biennial international festival created by Cap Digital in 2009, which became annual in 2012, and which shows each year during ten days the latest digital innovations to French and international professionals and to the general public.

Six demonstrations developed within the framework of Quaero will be presented at Futur en Seine 2013.

Quaero is happy to take part in this event for the third time. This year, six demonstrations related to video, image, music, speech, audio and text processing will be presented by several partners of Quaero, from June 13th to June 16th, 2013, at the Projects Archipelago, in the Centquatre centre.

In 2012, 10,000 visitors attended Futur en Seine at CENTQUATRE centre, and over 90,000 visitors over 10 days.

IMMI is happy to support InterSpeech'13, the 14th Annual Conference of the International Speech Communication Association.

INTERSPEECH is the world's largest and most comprehensive conference on Spoken Language Processing science and technology. This edition will coincide with the 25th anniversary of ISCA, formerly known as ESCA, which was born in France in 1988.

This year, a special focus is set on “Speech in Life Sciences and Human Societies”.

This international conference, organized by INRIA, will be take place in Lyon, France, on 25-29 August 2013 and will be hosted in the Lyon Convention Center. More than 1'200 participants are expected.

META-NET Strategic Research Agenda for Multilingual Europe 2020

More than two years in the making, the final version of the META-NET Strategic Research Agenda for Multilingual Europe 2020 (SRA) was published on December 01, 2012. This document is the result of a discussion between hundreds of experts from research and industry.

The main purpose of the SRA is to raise awareness for the field of Language Technology in Europe and attract the attention of and inform politicians and policy makers on the regional, national and international level in their decisions, especially with regard to the upcoming European funding opportunities Horizon 2020 and Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).

IMMI participated in the 3rd International Symposium on Multilingualism in Cyberspace, which took place in Paris, at the Auditorium Marie Curie, on November 21-23, 2012.

Outline

Cyberspace presents simultaneously a threat and an opportunity for languages. The threat comes from the fact that the best-equipped languages dominate the others; the opportunity because cyberspace, because of its ease of access and its universality, can give a voice to those who had no voice before.

Maaya, the world network for linguistic diversity, has organised the 3rd SIMC, a meeting which brought together some thirty international experts with the intention of shining a spotlight on practical initiatives in the area of the appropriation of cyberspace as a means of revitalisation for languages.

The quest for meaning: where are our weak points and what do we need?

The conclusions of the first Tralogy Conference (3-4 March 2011 at the CNRS in Paris) were clear: none of the specialist branches of the language industry can individually hope to offer all the intellectual and professional tools needed to function effectively in the sector. They all need each other: translation has always been interdisciplinary and the translation profession even more so. Accordingly, on the occasion of the second Tralogy Conference, we would like to ask each of our prospective participants not only to present specific contributions from their specialist fields and research into the question of meaning, but also, and in particular, to highlight the limits they face in their specialist fields and research within the wider context of the potential applications of their work. What we would like to find out by the end of Tralogy II is what each of us does not know how to do. We are therefore hoping that, as we map out our respective weak points, these will coincide with the points of contact made at the Conference and with the areas in which there is room for improvement. We will therefore give priority to concise presentations (the published articles will of course be longer) in order to leave time for discussions. And the key question that emerged from Tralogy I will remain at the heart of this analysis: how to measure the quality of a translation with regard to its use.

Canada was the country invited to participate in Tralogy I. This time we would like to honour languages that are very much alive but with lower numbers of users. We have therefore decided to organise this conference under the joint patronage of the Baltic States, Member States of the European Union: Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

Following the success of IWSDS'2009 (Irsee, Germany), IWSDS'2010 (Gotemba Kogen Resort, Japan) and IWSDS'2011 (Granada, Spain), the 4th International Workshop on Spoken Dialog Systems (IWSDS 2012) will be held in Ermenonville, near Paris (France) on November 28-30, 2012.

The IWSDS Workshop series provides an international forum for the presentation of research and applications and for lively discussions among researchers as well as industrialists, with a special interest to the practical implementation of Spoken Dialog Systems in everyday applications.
